Technological development is accompanied by the invention of new chemicals and materials with specific properties. Without insecticides no fight against Malaria, without drugs no cure for diseases, without advanced materials no chance to overcome the societal challenges such as mobility, energy, climate change, water and other resources and aging society. But in the real world the coin has two sides and every substance or material may have an unwanted effect in organisms or the environment. During the last century the technical development was much faster than the related risk assessment regarding these chemicals and materials which now can be found everywhere in the environment.
The contributions to this symposium will enlighten different aspects in this development.
The Symposium will provide an overview about the topics which have been important during the scientific career of Prof. Dr Harald Krug, who will be retiring in September 2017.
