Our Infrastructure Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art materials synthesis and processing facilities including fume hoods, glove boxes, tube and muffle furnaces, aerosal assisted chemical vapor deposition and an ultrasonic spray combustion setup. The lab also comprises an optical float zone furnace for single crystal growth and a spark plasma sintering furnace for the fabrication of dense ceramics as well as a diamond wire saw and a polishing setup. Structural analysis is carried out in one of our two x-ray diffractometers, Raman spectrometer and a state-of-the-art Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analyzer. Electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal diffusivity and conductivity can be determined up to 1000°C. Thermodynamic properties can be investigated using thermogravimetry or differential scanning calorimetry. Application specific test stands for battery cycling, photoelectrochemical water splitting, alkaline electrolysis and thermoelectric module testing are also operational. Investigation of catalytic properties under reaction conditions is performed using several infrared spectrometers in combination with gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry.
