CELLS AT SURFACES



The aim of our group is to understand the mechanisms of how human cells and tissues interact with new materials. We are especially interested in the events occurring at the interface, which include but are not limited to integration/non-integration of materials into host tissue, stimulatory cues from drug-releasing materials as well as cellular processes involved in tissue/wound healing.

To better understand such events, we develop and use novel advanced in vitro models. In these models, tissue-specific cell types (i.e. primary cells instead of cell lines) and culture conditions (i.e. co-cultures and 3D-cultures instead of 2D mono-cultures) are selected in order to more closely mimic the in vivo situation.


